What Is ArcLight?
ArcLight is stories. Imagine you're finishing dinner. Maybe you’re at a party, maybe it’s your family’s Sunday supper. You push back from the table while coffee is poured. You congregate out on the front porch because it’s cool enough now. Maybe the first sign of what’s to come is a laugh-tinged “You will never believe what happened to me at work...”
Or a wistful “Do y’all remember that time...”
But it always comes. Here, in our little corner of the country, they always come. The South has always marked time by it’s stories. They carry our history. Our fathers and grandfathers. Wars. Hunting trips. Good dogs. Great loves. Brass badges and bank robbers. Our everyday lives.
ArcLight Stories is the celebration of that great tradition. It is the chance for our stories to move off the front porch, or from around the campfire, or out of the coffee house, and be put on stage in front of friends and strangers alike.
True, Personal Stories - Told In Person
Spin your own tale
The thing that makes Arc Light great is our storytellers. They come from all walks of life: people who got the tiniest bit liquored up and stepped up to the mic, or people who took a deep breath and got brave. You can do it. Some of our storytellers are professionals, but most aren't. The common factor is being a human, and all humans have stories.
After you submit your story to our Story Portal, the Arc Light Team combs through each entry, making sure we choose the perfect stories for each event. We get a lot of stories, and we can't pick 'em all, or we'd be listening to folks spin yarns well into the early morning hours.
Our Story Coaches work with each storyteller to help craft their story into the best it can be. We've got great fans who want more than anything for you to succeed. Everyone is rooting for you. We know you've got the perfect story. So pitch your story, and let's make this crazy thing happen.
"If You've Heard This Story Before,
Don't Stop Me. I'd Like to Hear It Again."
- Groucho Marx
Like all good Southerners, we hold on to our memories. You can subscribe to the Arc Light podcast, and if you're interested in some deeper cuts, check out our collection of stories from past events. And if you like 'em, why don't you share 'em via Soundcloud?
Jump on in. The water's fine.
Live storytelling is our lifeblood, and once you get to one of our events, we think you'll agree. Sharing is caring. So tell your friends about Arc Light using our social media banners and badges, as well as, you know, your mouth.
Our next event:
Marching On: Stories About Growing Up In The Civil Rights Era
Our first ArcLight SpotLight event!
We're so happy and honored to get the opportunity to partner with the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute to bring this night of incredible stories.
The roster is already set. We worked with BRCI to find the best six stories from their archives. So, we are not taking story submissions for this event. However, if you've got a great story that fits this theme, we'd love to know about it - cause we're always looking for great stories.
Our ArcLight SpotLight events are going to be very excellent and top-notch. Therefore, the tickets for this event are going to be $10.
Please join us for a night of incredible stories.
Also, this will be the first event that we've sold tickets online in advance. So if you want to be sure to get a seat, please go ahead and purchase your tickets.

Here's How it Works
Arc Light is true, personal stories. Told in person. And everyone's got one. Here's how to submit yours for future events!
Pitch your story by giving us a written summary in 1200 characters or less via our Story Portal. Tell us the actual story: no cliffhangers or what it might be about. We want to know the whole thing and how the experience changed you. And that brings up another good point: it's got to be your story and it's got to be true. We can't wait to hear it!
We love these guys
When we decided to try and make this idea a reality, our friends came out of the woodwork to help us. Without these people, ArcLight stories would likely not exist. At the very least, you’d probably never have heard of it and you wouldn’t be reading this right now because there would be no website. You also wouldn’t be able to hear the stories because there would be no microphone. There would be no podcast, no chairs to sit in, which wouldn’t really matter so much because there would be no venue. They do an amazing job for us, all of them, and the least we can do is to suggest their services to you so they can do a great job for you too.
If you would like to get involved with ArcLight give us a holler!
